Homeland security, contraband detection and personal safety are receiving significant attention worldwide, both to ensure the well being of populations and to enhance the quality of the human life. It is important to detect critical situations and recognize dangerous conditions as early as possible, to effect appropriate reactions.

Sensors, instrumentation, measurement systems, dedicated systems, signal and image processing systems, intelligent measurement systems, simulation systems, virtual environments, advanced human-computer interfaces, multi-agent systems, robotic systems, and integrated information systems are needed to ensure appropriate monitoring, control, and support to decision makers.

This workshop aims to establish a comprehensive specialized forum to present the most recent results on all topics related to sensors, instrumentation, measurement systems, measurement procedure, and applications for homeland security, contraband detection, and personal safety.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • material identification and classification;
  • detection of explosive, chemical, biological material;
  • biometric (face, fingerprint, iris, retina, walking) recognition and identification of persons;
  • tracking of persons and objects;
  • motion detection and analysis;
  • data fusion of behavior analysis;
  • detection of unusual behavior of persons;
  • detections of intruders in containers;
  • simulation and prediction of the diffusion of chemical and biological materials;
  • data mining for detection of information patterns related to unusual or dangerous situations;
  • intelligent knowledge analysis and extraction for security;
  • automotive safety and assisted driving;
  • automotive driving monitoring and remote protection;
  • monitoring and supervision of railways and mass transportation systems;
  • remote protection of transportation systems;
  • personal monitoring and assistance.
